Policy & Strategy

  Keeping alive the memory of Operation Market-Garden and drawing attention to the consequences of the operation. To honour, to remember and to learn are the aims of our foundation. We are trying to realise this by reaching worldwide as large a number of people as possible. We are doing this, amongst others by means of the internet website: www.marketgarden.com

Honour: Our website contains an extensive report of the events supported by photographs, extracts of films, maps, schemes and an inter-active digital monument. At this moment, the files of over 3.363 airborne soldiers and 640 civilians who were killed in this operation are to be found in this monument. These files can be specified by adding a name and an army number, but it is also possible to choose from ten pre-selections, changing automatically. Now all the known data of this individual are obtained, supported by a photograph of his headstone and, if available, also a photograph of the individual soldier. Many files contain extra information about the circumstances in which this soldier was killed and where. In the following years the data base will be extended with group photos and further relevant information.

Remember: The foundation organises projects in support of commemorations and also initiates commemorations herself. Some examples of it: the organisation of special airborne landings, supported by people and/or material, or organising actions for the benefit of fund raising actions. We also attend small-scale commemorations. The foundations will do their best for keeping alive the memory of Market-Garden, and has clear ideas about commemorations in the future.

Learn: With Operation Market-Garden as an example, the foundation is trying to make people aware of the fact that freedom and democracy should not be taken for granted. A great many people have paid the supreme sacrifice to render us the possibility to live in freedom! We should wonder whether we fully realise and deserve this. It is our policy to set up study projects for educational institutions and other groups. We are trying to reach these groups in a specific way that suits the target group best.

How can I help? The Market-Garden Foundation is an organisation of volunteers. It stands to reason that we are actively trying to find funds for our expenses to facilitate our aims. Apart from this, financial support from sponsors and individuals remains a necessity. For these reasons we have taken the liberty to apply to you for support of our foundation. This is possible by means of a gift, but also by making available products and/or services free of charge.

Beleid & Strategie

   Het in stand houden van de nagedachtenis en aandacht besteden aan de gevolgen
van operatie Market Garden. Eren, herinneren en leren zijn de doelstellingen van onze stichting.

Wij proberen dit te bewerkstelligen door het wereldwijd aanspreken van een zo groot mogelijk aantal mensen. Wij doen dit voornamelijk met de internet website www.marketgarden.com maar ook via social media en evenementen of fysieke monumenten.

Eren: De website bevat een uitvoerig verslag van de gebeurtenissen ondersteund door foto’s, filmfragmenten, kaarten, schema’s en een interactief digitaal monument om de omgekomen personen een gezicht te geven. In dit monument bevinden zich op dit moment de dossiers van ruim 3.363 luchtlandingstroepen (en ondersteunende eenheden) en 640 burgers die tijdens de operatie zijn gesneuveld of om het leven gekomen. Deze dossiers zijn specifiek oproepbaar door het invoeren van een naam of een legernummer maar men kan ook kiezen uit tien automatisch wisselende voorselecties. Vervolgens krijgt men alle bekende gegevens van deze persoon te zien ondersteund door een foto van zijn/haar grafsteen en, indien aanwezig, ook een foto van de persoon zelf. Veel dossiers bevatten informatie over de omstandigheden waarin of waar de betreffende persoon is gesneuveld. Het Digitale Monument zal constant worden uitgebreid of gewijzigd met nieuwe informatie en foto's.

Herinneren: De stichting organiseert projecten ter ondersteuning van herdenkingen en initieert ook zelf herdenkingen. Enkele voorbeelden hiervan zijn het organiseren van speciale evenementen, de oprichting en/of het beheer van fysieke monumenten, steun met mensen en/of materieel of het organiseren van acties (rehabilitatie en offici�le erkenning Poolse Parachutisten Brigade). Ook zijn wij zelf aanwezig bij kleinschalige herdenkingen meestal in Nederland maar soms in het buitenland. De stichting zal zich inzetten voor het in stand houden van de herinnering aan Operatie Market Garden en heeft een duidelijke visie over herdenken in de toekomst.

Leren: Met operatie Market Garden als voorbeeld probeert de stichting mensen bewust te maken van het feit dat vrijheid en democratie geen vanzelfsprekende zaken zijn. Dat heel veel anderen hun leven hebben gegeven om ons een leven in vrijheid te geven! Dat we ons altijd moeten afvragen of we dit wel voldoende beseffen en verdienen. Ons beleid is gericht op het stimuleren van studieprojecten van onderwijs instellingen en andere groepen. We proberen deze groepen te bereiken op een specifieke manier die het beste bij een doelgroep past.

Hoe kan ik helpen? De stichting Market Garden Foundation is een vrijwilligers organisatie. Uiteraard zullen we zelf actief naar middelen zoeken om onze doelstellingen te bekostigen. Daarnaast zijn ook bijdragen van sponsoren en particuliere giften en subsidies hard nodig. Om die reden roepen wij ook u op om onze stichting te steunen. Dat kan d.m.v een financiële schenking maar ook door het kosteloos beschikbaar stellen van producten en/of diensten. Onze stichting is ingeschreven bij de Nederlandse Kamer van Koophandel onder nummer: 09143670

Uitgaven en beloning

De uitgaven van de stichting zijn volledig gericht op het uitvoeren van bovenstaande activiteiten, voor het algemene belang.

De leden van het bestuur ontvangen geen beloning voor hun werkzaamheden. Zij hebben wel recht op vergoeding van gemaakte kosten in de uitoefening van hun functie en op een niet bovenmatig vacatiegeld.
