Comments: Dear Sir: I just wanted to drop you a little note to thank you for the excellent work that was done on this website. As a 26 year old newly commisioned 2LT. Armor officer in the US Army and military history buff, I am truly impressed and speechless and the dedication of your work up to this point. Please continue the hard work, If not for the soldiers of the past, present, and future, Then for the children so they may remember the sacrifice of the few for the many! Please E-mail this address when you get more of the site completed. My parents will forward your E-mail to me! Also, my grandfather landed at Omaha Beach will the 196th F.A., Part of the 30th Division (Old Hickory),and fought at the Battle Of The Bulge. On the other side my fiancee's grandfather fought with the German Army at Omaha Beach. Such Irony in 53 years time!

Keep up the good work and if you are ever in England come and look us up at the Museum and have a sit in our Horsa cockpit.

Comments: As a post war baby (1944) I followed my father into the Royal Air Force and was at a NATO airbase near the dutch border for many years, I visited both Arnhem and Njimegen many times and followed the trail and history of the Arnhem battle several times. I have nothing but gratitude and admiration for the courage and sacrifice by all those who fought in this battle.

Comments: A very fine book named "Modern Small Arms" by Major Frederick Myatt M.C.published in 1978 by Crescent Books, a division of Crown Publishers Inc. New York, New York,(Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 78-59200 has many pictures of the weapons you are looking for. Also the picture you have of the Colt .45 looks like it is the M1911A1 Colt. These pistols were manufactured under contract by many differant companies, including Singer Sewing Machine Co. Good Luck with your efforts

Comments: Well done! I have a keen interest in World War II(European theater) and Market Garden in particular. You've done a great job. As I write this comment, it is just a month after our Remembrance Day here in Canada. With fewer veterans every year, I can think of no better way to honor their sacrifice than to immortalize their actions in Market Garden on the WWW. When my son is old enough to appreciate the content of your site, I hope it will still be on the Web..."Lest we forget". Thanks

Comments: Your website is outstanding!!! It's refreshing to find in todays world appreciation for the sacrifices that were made in WWII for the freedoms that we enjoy. Today's "revisionist" history tends to downplay the methods used in winning the war. Perhaps the wars critics should look at the war from a 1940's perspective.

I am astounded that this event was allowed to slip away due to what I understand was poor intelligence. And apparently no one listened to the the Dutch resistance who were telling the British what was actually happening on the ground just before the operation began. I will add this bookmark to my others on matters related to the invasion of Europe.

Comments: Three of us had the chance to detour to Arnhem while travelling back from Hannover. After seeing the bridge we all wanted to have some more information. These pages are great and we will be taking some time to read them. Well done and many thanks.

Comments: This is the best website I have seen sofar with WW2 as a subject I have the same kind of intrest in these historical places and I printed the whole wessite so I can teach my son what happenened back then and try to make sure his generation will not forget. Maybee it would be an Idea to put some current route-descriptions on the site so everyone can find those places by printing the maps ? keep up the good work !

Comments: Greetings: My mother's cousin, Lt. Robert Lake of the 101st Airborne Div., was killed during Market Garden. Almost no knowledge of the details regarding his participation in the operation are known. While in Holland I traveled the Arnhem-Eindhoven route and visited the airborne museum near Nijmegen. There I found his name and outfit designation in the 'Hall of Heroes'. The information I had regarding his death was that he was injured during the fighting and then killed when the hospital he was in was bombed. The incription indicated he was WIA-DOW at OEDEN/MONASAT which I was told was probably the Monastery in St. Oedenrode. I was driving north out of St. Oedenrode and came upon a hospital which appeared to perhaps have once been a monastery. I was overwhelmed by the sense of history I was experiencing. Does it seem likely that the hospital I stumbled upon was the OEDEN/MONAST mentioned on the museum plaque? Also, do you know of any sources of additional information I might be able to obtain regarding Lt. Lake's role during Market-Garden? He has a son that was born after he left for Europe who also knows little of his father. I very much enjoyed my brief travel through Holland and hope to return to do it more fully in the future. I wasn't able to visit the 1st Airborne Division museum in Oosterbeek and would like to visit it. Can you provide me a list of the museums and monuments dedicated to the Market-Garden operation? I may be able to provide a photograph of Lt. Lake in uniform if your organization or a museum may like it. Thank you for your time. Mark Bergin 2250 Monroe St. #133 Santa Clara, CA 95050

Comments: Great site. If any one out there has a chance, definitely pay a visit to the Airborne Museum in Arnhem. It gives an amazing perspective on the operation.
