Vietnam and Desert Strom Vets). Very interested in WWII, Airborne in particular. I spent 9
years with 101st Airborne Div. We will be in the Netherlands in March to tour the great
Airborne battle sites. Your site has been of great help in finding out about the areas we

Comments: I have been researching WWII airborne history for many years and have have
friends and acquaintances who served at Arnhem (e.g. Bill Blair, Border Regt)and who
served with Canadian airborne units (1 Cdn Para Bn & FSSF) and with S.O.,E. I am
active with military vehicle preservation and have a 1944 Willys MB jeep that came out of
Norway and appears to have served with the British Army. There is some physical evidence
that it MAY have served with the British Airborne. Did 1 AB Div leave their vehicles
behind in Norway when they left in 1945? It is now being done up as per 1 Cdn Para Bn
(same markings as 3 Para Bn i.e. 57 on red unit sign & Pegasus fmtn sign) for 1944-45.
I also have two folding BSA 'airborne bicycles'-- one complete as it left the army, and
the other a restored frame. Interested in seeing or acquiring WWII British airborne
trailer (10 Cwt Lt. Wt.) I look forward to spending time exploring this website! I found
the e-mail address of one collector friend (Phil Waterman) on your guestpage already -- a
good start! Cheers!

flown in on a glider that was shot down and crashed short of their objective although
despite a couple broken ribs he did make it to his unit a few days later. He told me many
stories from the war. He said he was active for 18 days before he was wounded. A German 88
hit the jeep he was in and he was a disabled veteran all his life. He died 3 years ago. We
do have a photo journal of the 82nd Airborne that has pictures of Market Garden and
actually has a photo of him in it. I will look forward to seeing more of the American

Comments: The site looks great, and the info is good as well. However, there is one
comment I wish to make: many resources about the Battle of Arnhem in my opinion pay too
little attention to the German units fighting in the Battle. The history of the II SS Pz
Korps is widely spread, the Krafft Battalion is often referred to, but then it all ends.
But so many other units fought there!! I know it is all very vague and complicated, but a
good account about the German units would really be appreciated. But your site really is
great and I wish you success with its further development.

Comments: Your homepage was excellent!!! well done! I was looking for this info because I
started doing my family tree, and my Uncle was in the Arnhem war. In reading your pages I
noticed the name General Urquhart, well not many men with this name and I have a medal,
not much info on my Uncle, Would you be able to tell me how I can tell if the General
Urquhart was my Uncle? I would sure appreciate it, in return if this is my Uncle I can
send pictures of him.... Thanks Debbie

Comments: I am looking for two books regarding Operation Market Garden and have had no
luck so far. Can anyone help who may have a copy or know where to obtain one. The Devil's
Birthday: The Bridges to Arnhem by Geoffrey Powell and Four stars of Hell by Laurence
Critchell. My brother Robert Kester was in Company I, 501st PIR 101st Airborne Division
who parachuted into Holland in Operation Market Garden on 17th September 1944. He was
killed that day at Veghel Railroad Station. If anyone reading this was there that day in
Veghel would like to correspond with them. Kind Regards and keep up this great site
dedicated to all those brave men who took part in Operation Market Garden.

Comments: Congratulations to a job well done! This is by far the best "market garden
site" I´ve ever seen! I´m a sergeant in the Royal Swedish marines and visited
Holland and Nijmegen during the 4-daagse in 1997. We then visited some of the landing
zones, cemetaries and so on. We also had a briefing on the Waal crossing sice it is not to
far from our own activities. Your site answers the questions I never got to asked when I
was there. Thank you.

Comments: I noticed that you included the U.S. Airforce as one of the involved forces ...
You may well know this already, but the U.S. Airforce wasn't created until 1948. The U.S.
Army Air Force, however, was involved in Operation Market Garden, as were elements of
thearmy's 101st Airborne. Looks like a good site you've got here, and I thought you might
appreciate the clarification. p.s. I think Monty sucked as a general, but that's strictly
a personal opinion.
