SS Units - pistols

P-08 Luger:
Ammunition: 9mm parabellum
Selector: None (Semi-Automatic)
Feed: 8 round clip

The P-08 Luger was relegated to a substitute pistol in 1938.  It was replaced by the newer, more reliable Walther pistols. The Luger was still used by officers and specialized troops. The Luger's firing mechanism was old, and the ammunition was dirt sensitive, making the Luger pistol unreliable in the severe battlefield conditions the German soldiers fought.

Walther HP Automatic Pistol:
Ammunition: 9mm Parabellum
Selector: None (Semi-automatic)
Feed: 8 round clip

The Walther HP automatic pistol was designed (in the post WWI years) to replace the Luger pistols which were in service with the German armed forces.  The Walther was a high quality pistol, which was easier to use and faster than the Luger pistols.  It had an improved safety which could be fired quickly, (the Lugar safety was slower and more difficult to operate).  The Walther HP was issued to officers and police units though out the Third Reich.
